NEWTON, N.C. – Pasta Piccinini, a manufacturer of pasta products, announced that it will fully relocate all US operations including sales and product manufacturing from California to a facility in Newton.  Pasta Piccinini commits to invest a minimum of $6,000,000 on acquisition, renovation of the facility and installation of pasta manufacturing machinery and equipment.  The company plans to create a minimum of 27 new jobs over 3 years, with the average wage of all new jobs created exceeding the County’s current average wage.

Pasta Piccinini manufactures a broad range of pasta products for private label brands.

Pasta Piccinini, a part of Italy-based Gastronomia Piccinini Srl, was established in 1971 in Pasadena, California and manufactures a broad range of pasta products for private label brands: fresh filled specialty pasta, fully cooked pasta and frozen fresh pasta.   The company’s origins date back nearly one hundred years from the unique recipes of the family’s grandmother in her small tavern in Muraglione, Italy.  Pasta Piccinini’s products remain faithful to the traditions of that region, while also incorporating commitments to quality and sustainable energy.

The relocation involves the purchase of an existing facility in Newton and extensive renovations of the facility to food-grade production standards.  The company’s current California facility is USDA certified, meets the safety, quality and operational criteria of the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standards, and is California Certified Organic, allowing the company to offer certified organic products.

“We are extremely excited about this new project in North Carolina. The acquisition of the new building in Catawba County, represents a further step in what we hope will be a very successful project which started in California 5 years ago,” said Stefano Piccinini, President and Co-Founder. “The US market for pasta is growing very fast and is posing a lot of challenges for new, medium sized companies such as ours. We hope that our passion and determination, together with the state of art technologies that will be installed in the new plant, will help overcome such challenges and open the door to new opportunities. A special thanks goes to the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance team, Foundry Commercial, Maxis Advisors, the City of Newton and Catawba County representatives who provided an incredible support throughout the steps that led to the acquisition of the building and beyond.”

“We extend a warm welcome to Pasta Piccinini and appreciate the investment and jobs they are bringing to Catawba County,” said Randy Isenhower, Catawba County Board of Commissioners Chair.  “This family-owned company joins generations of family-owned businesses in Catawba County that have found success and continue to bolster our economy.”

“We are proud that Pasta Piccinini has selected Newton as its new home,” Newton Mayor Eddie Haupt said.  “Our affordability and business-friendly environment make Newton an appealing choice for new businesses.  It is always great to see a new company repurpose a vacant building and give it new life by bringing high-wage opportunities and investment into the city.”

“Pasta Piccinini joins over 30 other internationally-owned companies in Catawba County that provide thousands of jobs for the local workforce,” said Dr. Garrett Hinshaw, chair of Catawba County Economic Development Corporation and president of Catawba Valley Community College.  “Catawba County has a strong reputation for supporting advanced manufacturing through unique resources such as the Manufacturing Solutions Center and the Workforce Solutions Complex.  We look forward to working with Pasta Piccinini to help them grow and thrive in Catawba County.”

Local incentives will be considered in future public hearings by the Catawba County Board of Commissioners and Newton City Council.

In addition to the City of Newton and Catawba County, other key partners in the project include the N.C. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, Charlotte Regional Business Alliance, Catawba County EDC, Western Piedmont Council of Governments, Foundry Commercial and Maxis Advisors.
