How Apple transformed this small town in the Charlotte region

For the second time in a decade, Apple looks to be focused on North Carolina.

Apple Inc. didn’t return requests to comment for this story. But officials in a small Catawba County town already transformed by the tech giant's tax dollars call it a “phenomenal company,” and predict that, should it pick Research Triangle Park for its East Coast corporate campus, that region, too, will soon sing its praises.

They say a decade ago in Maiden, trouble was brewing.
