The Catawba County housing market is experiencing a boom unlike any time before. In 2025, Catawba permitted 1,265 single-family units and 593 multi-family units. The two previous years were comparable as seen in the table below. Across the four-county Hickory MSA, those number grow to 2,058 single-family units and 634 multi-family units.
From newly constructed subdivisions, townhomes, and condos to historic homes to a variety of apartment choices, there are numerous available housing options. According to the US Census Bureau’s 2024 American Community Survey, the median home value was $299,300 and the median rent was $1029. 69.4% of the population owned their homes, while 30.6% of the population rented.
