Italian manufacturer of optical fiber Prysmian Group has found a home in Catawba County, where as much as 60% of the world’s optical fiber is made.
Prysmian Group is a multinational corporation and the world’s largest cable company measured by revenue. It produces not just optical fiber cables but also energy transmission cables, including those that go undersea. The publicly held company has 30,000 employees globally and, in June, completed the acquisition of General Cable in a $3 billion deal. The headquarters is in Milan.
Along with a growing facility in Claremont, Prysmian has two more manufacturing facilities in the Charlotte region in Abbeville, South Carolina, and in Lexington, South Carolina, where last year, the company broke ground on a new research and design center.
